This past year has been rather tumultuous for me. Went through a divorce, moved to a new home. So my apologies for my lack of attention to my blog.

2010 is a new year & with that I plan to be more vigilant in updating this blog.

113th Boston Marathon

Today I packed up the kids and drove to Brookline to watch the 113th Boston Marathon. At 10:45 we staked our claim of the corner of Beacon and University Road.

Unfortunately the one runner that I knew - I missed! Go figure.

Congratulations to all the runners. What an awesome accomplishment.

The wheelchair racers were amazing. I was able to get some shots of the women's wheelchair 1st place winner: Wakako Tsuchida

Spreading the Word

Yesterday I headed into Bean Town to Photoshop World Expo to spread the word about the wonderful organization Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep. Our booth displayed the beautiful images captured by our volunteer photographers of families and their precious babies.

It is such an honor to be able to work for this organization. Many of the attendees had never heard of nilmdts - so it was a great opportunity to educate and spread the word about infant bereavement photography.

Everyone's reactions differ - some couldn't bear to look at the images, others cried, some signed up to volunteer right on the spot. The collective reaction was praise for offering such a wonderful gift to families suffering an unimaginable loss.

Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep is the organization that I chose to give back of myself & my talents. For those of you who have not heard of this wonderful charity, you can learn more here.

With the Month of October being recognized as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, The Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep Foundation holds its Annual Fund Drive for six weeks starting in mid-September and ending in October. President Ronald Reagan enacted Proclamation 5890 in October of 1988 to recognize that each year, approximately a million pregnancies in the United States alone end in miscarriage, stillbirth, or the death of a newborn child. Reagan stated, "A national observance offers us the opportunity to increase our understanding of the great tragedy involved in the deaths of unborn or newborn babies. It also enables us to consider how, as individuals and communities, we can meet the needs of bereaved parents and family members... "

If you are in a place to make even a small contribution to NILMDTS, please know that doing so will continue to allow the organization to provide improved resources, training, communication, and other tools necessary in support of our amazing contingent of professional photographers who provide the gift of free remembrance portraiture to families in need.

Our next project we are working on is an online, interactive webinar version of our Formal NILMDTS Training taught by Co-Founder Sandy Puc' allowing anyone in any country with access to a computer to complete the course online. Donations help make programs like this a reality!

The Grand Prize winner of the Pancake Pete & Pancake Patty contest is . . .

Jacob's mom writes, " The reason we chose to bring Pancake Pete to the Red Sox game is because one of our first family outings (just a few months after Jacob was born) was to Fenway! We actually had front row seats up on the Green Monster, so it was a lot of fun! Jacob got a lot of attention for being one of the youngest Sox fans up in those seats. We were actually lucky enough to have the person next to us catch a ball thrown up by Wily Mo Pena, and he gave the ball to Jacob- it was great!! So, we LOVE the Red Sox, Fenway Park.......and Wally the Green Monster!!!!"

Walser Family Reunion

A few weekends ago my mom's side of the family all came together to celebrate grandma's birthday. This was an amazing feat since one family is from long Island, NY, one from St. Louis, MO and then us Massachusetts people ;)

I hadn't seen my cousins from St. Louis in 10+ years and only twice ever prior to that so it was really nice to reconnect. Of course like everything it ended too soon.

We went to eat at a nice restaurant on RT 9 in Westboro. This picture was taken with a timer of all of us. I guess we looked so good that it caused an accident on the West bound side of Rt 9. whoops -

I went to IKEA this week in Stoughton, MA. If you've never gone I highly recommend it and plan on being there for a good part of the day. The store is colossal!

Very simple & modern designs on a budget. They have everything there from furniture to kitchen gadgets to lighting.

I found alot of my office furniture there. So excited to put it together & get it in the new studio once it's done!!

Holy Boys, Boys & more Boys!

The testosterone must have been running high last year because every single newborn session I have had this year have been boys.

Boys can be difficult to photograph naked - as I'm sure you can imagine. Trying to hide all those private parts is no easy task. Especially when they tend to pee, and quite frequently, while naked. Note to mom's - bring a change of clothing for you because inevitably you will need them :)

Tangible Memories - When was the last time you looked??

I am fortunate to be able to do what I love to do. Providing memories for others is so gratifying. You really can't put a value on images of loved ones because it is the one thing that will carry on after the person is gone. To have tangible memories is truly priceless.

Case in point. . . my mom just turned 60. We threw her a surprise party, she was surrounded by family & friends, a great time was had by all. I was there to take pictures for her to put in a scrapbook of this momentous occasion.

I also created a collage of images from her birth up to present year, for everyone to look at & write a message. Going through all the old albums of memories was awesome. To be able to look back in time and show my children their Mema as a child really made me smile. Family history is so important, and too often overlooked.

Here's a few of what I put together for my mom:

So I encourage you to look through your old scrapbooks and albums, often - and just because. Show your children, grandchildren, and so on.

Alliance For Children - 7th Annual Multicultural Fair

The Alliance For Children is a non-profit international adoption agency based in Massachusetts, serving families throughout the USA.

Last Saturday 3/29 they held their 7th Annual Multicultural Fair and Annual Raffle Basket program. Proceeds benefits the Alliance For Children Foundation and provides humanitarian aid to children throughout the world.

The Fair had many dance and music performers, a multicultural marketplace as well as arts & crafts for the children.

I spent the afternoon at the fair capturing the whirlwind of activity. A great time was had by all.

Stefanie Lynn Photography has formed into a Limited Liability Corporation. From this day forward (actually it was official on Feb 20th) I am forever known as Stefanie Lynn Photography L.L.C.

Your probably wondering why I am blogging about this. I know it's not overly exciting news for my clients but for my business it is HUGE!

I even received a fancy official seal thingamajig - don't know when I'll ever use it but makes me feel important none-the-less.

I just returned from a week in Vegas for the Wedding Portrait Professional International (WPPI) conference.

It was truly AMAZING & INSPIRING. I studied under some of the top photography professionals in the world.

Jump started the creative juices flowing again. I can't wait to implement what I have learned with all my upcoming sessions!
